Join the Eid celebrations at your store

There are two Eid celebrations on the Islamic calendar – Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha – and both are big events for muslim communities in the UK and around the world.

Eid Al Fitr is celebrated at the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting, and happens on the first day of the month of Shawwal – August 8 in 2013. Eid Al Adha is on October 15 in 2013 and honours the prophet Abraham and marks the end of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

Both are joyful events when people put their best clothes on, go to the local mosque to say Eid prayers and wish everyone ‘Eid Mubarak!’ (‘Happy Eid!’) with hugs and handshakes. Homes are decorated and cards are sent. Families get together to exchange presents, give money to youngsters and share delicious traditional feasts and snacks like samosas and pakoras. For Eid Al Adha, the festival of sacrifice, muslims will distribute the meat from an animal, usually a sheep or a goat, amongst family, friends and the poor.
