Retailers fear for magazine category

magsIndependent convenience store retailers have been voicing concern over the future of the news and magazine category due to a continued decline of sales in favour of digital applications. The news comes after the final issue of a major men’s lifestyle magazine Nuts, was published last month after sales dropped 82% from over 360,000 copies at its peak, to 53,342 as of December 2013.

According to figures from ABC, the sales of printed UK magazines dropped 6.3% in the latter half of 2013. Emma Spencer from Emma’s Newsagents, Stafffordshire reported really poor sales; ‘We only had one copy of Nuts and most times we sent it back, men’s magazines don’t sell at all.’
