Food-to-go options a favourite with c-store shoppers

HIM food to go 290 x 141Food-to-go is growing in popularity, with a 5% rise year on year say findings released by Him! Research and Consulting.

Him! found food-to-go’s share of spend increased by 11% over 2014, meaning that every 20p in a £1.00 spent in convenience stores was on food-to-go products. In July 2014, 33% of UK adults visited a c-store to purchase food-to-go, a 3% increase on April’s figures.

This growth is seen as a huge opportunity for c-store retailers, with the rise in this sector linked to the increasing range of food-to-go options for the customer, including hot food counters and coffee machines now in many c-stores.

However, many of these customers would have spent more in-store if offered a ‘complete lunch solution.’ 57% of these c-store shoppers who bought a sandwich, didn’t go on to buy crisps or snacks, whilst 47% didn’t buy a drink, leaving retailers with another opportunity to sell more to these customers.
