Today’s Group and its members have donated £22,000 to Nepal Earthquake appeal!

290 x 141On Saturday 25 April a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. It severely shook the lives of at least 8 million people and left many homeless.  Nepal’s major cities, including the capital Kathmandu, were badly damaged and rural areas near the epicentre have been completely cut off by avalanches.

Thousands of people have been confirmed dead since the earthquake and even those whose homes are still standing are sleeping in the streets because they are terrified by regular aftershocks.  As the people of Nepal try once again to build their lives Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) member agencies and their partners continue to work urgently to provide emergency shelters, food, clean water and blankets to help the many people that have been displaced from their homes.   Once immediate, life-saving needs are met they will work with individuals, families and communities to support them to rebuild their lives.

In response to multi-agency appeals, Today’s Charitable Trust, together with Today’s member wholesalers have donated over £22,000.  This will assist in the aid efforts throughout the worst hit areas of the country and will enable the purchase of emergency aid including temporary emergency shelters, food and clean water, bringing immediate relief in extreme weather conditions to a small number of the many hundreds of thousands of people who have been affected by this unmitigated natural disaster.
