Today’s launches it’s Charitable Foundation

Charity_261x163We are delighted to report the launch of the Today’s Charitable Foundation and during the Today’s Members Awards Gala Dinner we raised over £4,000 because of the generosity of our dinner guests. Bill Laird, Managing Director of Today’s Group then announced that  we would double the sum raised and round it up to £10,000 – a great start for our two charities.

He commented: “Our Board, Executive and Today’s team in Doncaster are keen to support charities that involve helping children and their families.  In choosing the two charities that we have, Bluebell Wood children’s hospice and Village water we are doing just that”.

Bluebell Wood

Bluebell Wood is a Children’s Hospice that offers care and support to children with a shortened life expectancy, both in their own homes and at their hospice in North Anston, near Doncaster. This charity  has been chosen by Today’s as it has children at the  heart of all that they do and it is local to Today’s Group head office. It  is known personally by a member of the Today’s board and was quickly selected when we learnt more of what they offer and how it is achieved.

Bluebell Wood needs £3 million every year to simply maintain the facilities they provide to terminally ill children and continue the support offered to their families. They receive  no Government funding.

Managing Director of Today’s Group, Bill Laird, said: “The work  of Bluebell Wood   is nothing short of tremendous and we are happy to be able to help in some small way to keep this essential lifeline open and well maintained for both the children and their families. As it is a small, local charity, our entire donation will go straight to the hospice and can be used exactly for what is needed.”

Village Water

Villlage Water is a charity discovered during our research for our Blue Stone Spring own label water. The focus here is on providing safe water and sanitation in rural Zambia, for village communities

Since 2003, Village Water has been changing lives in rural Zambia through safe water and sanitation, supporting activities in more than 680 villages and 10 schools, reaching approximately 150,000 people.

Bill Laird said: “safe water and sanitation is something we in the UK take for granted, but for which many people elsewhere need help in order to preserve their quality of life. 95% of the money donated goes directly to where it is needed to provide the communities in Zambia with the knowledge and equipment they need to maintain safe drinking water.”

Clare Wearden, Director of Village Water said: “I want to say a huge ‘thank you’ for making such a fantastic effort with us! From just two weeks ago when we met together to chat about potential, to this week when you’ve already put together funds for an entire community is quite staggering for us.”
