Unitas Wholesale drives ecommerce success through Digital Excellence Academy webinar event

The UK’s largest wholesale services company, Unitas Wholesale, has hosted its first webinar event as part of its new Digital Excellence Academy initiative. The inaugural event was delivered in partnership with Lumina Intelligence, leaders in understanding operator behaviour across the digital landscape.

Over 80 delegates attended the webinar which took place on 2 February, with representatives from 24 Unitas member wholesalers involved in the on-line event.  With an ever-greater emphasis being placed on well executed digital activity, particularly in light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and a significant shift in the amount of business that is being undertaken online, the event focused on best practice for B2B wholesale transactional platforms for wholesalers serving retail customers. The packed agenda covered the importance of online ecommerce, what retail customers really want from a wholesaler’s website or app, and illustrated the principles using live examples of how Unitas Wholesale members measure up against industry competition.

Following positive feedback from attendees, the event was deemed engaging and insightful with comments such as “the webinar was very well communicated”, and “the content was particularly relevant to today’s market and the growing need for an effective, responsive e-commerce site that does more than just sell” and “the webinar was fantastic, just what the industry needs”.

Following the event member wholesalers were provided with a range of tools providing further guidance and practical support, including a free ‘Tops Tips’ pack containing additional category specific advice from sponsoring suppliers; Boost, CYT, Kellogg’s, Mars Petcare, McVities, Nestle Beverages & Confectionery, P&G, Pernod Ricard and Premier Foods.

As part of the event Unitas Wholesale members were given the opportunity to have a detailed health check audit on their own ecommerce platform carried out by Lumina Intelligence via a dedicated Digital Scientist.  Each bespoke report scores wholesalers against a number of key criteria including taxonomy, in-bound searches, and promotional content, as well as highlighting important areas of improvement.

A further session will be hosted later in the year focusing on the Group’s out of home members. In addition, a series of modules covering a range of digitally related topics important for wholesale businesses and their customers are planned as part of the Digital Excellence Academy which will take place later in the year.  It is anticipated that the next event will focus on social media and how it can support wholesale businesses effectively.
